Build

Landing page or homepage: where should your ads send people?

You pay for every click. Where that click lands decides whether it turns into an enquiry or a wasted visit.

A homepage has to serve everyone: new visitors, existing customers, job applicants, partners. It offers many paths, because it doesn't know why the visitor came. An ad click is different. You know exactly why that person came: they responded to one specific promise.

A landing page is built for that one promise and one action. That focus is why landing pages usually convert ad traffic better than homepages.

What a good landing page includes

  1. A headline that matches the ad. If the ad says "Automate your follow-ups", the page should say the same thing, not your general company slogan.
  2. One clear action. Book a call, get a quote or download a guide. Not five buttons competing for attention.
  3. The few facts that remove doubt. What you get, who it's for, how it works, and some proof that you've done it before.
  4. A short form. Ask only for what you need to follow up. Every extra field loses some people.
  5. Fast loading on a phone. Most ad clicks come from mobile. A slow page loses visitors before they read anything.

What to remove

The main navigation, links to unrelated pages, sliders and anything else that gives the visitor a reason to wander away. A landing page isn't a smaller website; it's a single conversation.

One landing page per offer

If you advertise several services, give each its own landing page. A business advertising both website builds and ad management should send each audience to a page that speaks only to them. It's also the only way to see clearly which offer converts.

The part most businesses miss: what happens after the form

A landing page that converts well can still waste leads if the form just sends an email to a shared inbox. Connect it properly:

  • The lead goes straight into your CRM, with the campaign that produced it attached.
  • An instant reply goes out by WhatsApp or email.
  • Someone is assigned to follow up, with a reminder.
  • The conversion is reported back to the ad platform, so it can find more people like this lead.

How to know it's working

Track the landing page's conversion rate (visits to enquiries), the cost per lead from each campaign, and, most importantly, how many of those leads become customers. Test one change at a time, such as the headline, the offer or the form length, and keep what improves the numbers.
